What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Its a place where you can remember who you are or discover who you want to be

Therapy is different for every person who enters the room because your needs are unique.  Its precious time to step away from life – its a special relationship, discussing your inner most thoughts in a way that you mightn’t have before.  For you that may mean a space to vent or offload or maybe you’d like to explore and heal the past so that it doesn’t take up your headspace or energy or stop you from living your life the way that you want to now. You can clear your head and get your thoughts straight. We can analyse and help you to understand yourself and other people better.  We can figure out what is going on for you and what you want from life, exploring what feels out of alignment, what blocks there may be in the way and what you can do about it!

I would suggest a holistic self care plan, looking at all areas of your life, thinking about exercise, improving sleep, diet, social support, enjoyable tasks and play to enable you to find balance.  I may suggest books, ted talks, meditations (if its your thing), breathing techniques and a plethora of other tools, so that you can take charge of your wellbeing outside of sessions.

There’s often stigma attached to therapy but in fact it’s the most courageous thing you can do – to take the time to look at yourself, your life, heal and let go of old baggage to make sure that you’re living authentically and with joy.

If you had a broken arm you’d wear a sling – isn’t it even more important to look after your mind, your heart and soul?

One of the biggest mistakes we can make is to look out there and think that everyone else has got it well put together, like they know what they’re doing.  We compare our insides with everyone else’s outsides – that’s never going to be a fair comparison.  People have a good presenting self but essentially everyone has their own stuff going on behind those eyes.  We’re all just winging it, trying our best to live in a fast paced world.  Therapy can help us to be our best self and at peace.
